Tour de France Life is edited and published by James Raia, a Sacramento-based journalist and author.
A reporter since 1976, Raia began covering bicycle racing in 1979 at the Nevada City Classic in Northern California. Greg LeMond was the star rider at the time, and Raia was immediately hooked on the sport.
In addition to reporting on baseball to boxing, basketball to golf, Raia has twice covered the Olympic Games as well as numerous World Championships and unique events in more than a dozen countries.
Following staff writer and columnist positions at the Sacramento Bee and Monterey County Herald, Raia began his independent writing career in 1986 with daily reporting from the Coors International Bicycle Classic and World Cycling Championship in Colorado.
He’s been on the cycling beat since and has reported on stage races such as the Tour de Trump, Tour DuPont, Tour of Missouri, Tour of Georgia. USA Pro Cycling Challenge and Tour of California.
Raia has attended the Tour de France 13 times since 1996 while covering the event for myriad publications, USA Today to the Dallas Morning News and the Miami Herald to the Sacramento Bee.
In 2005, Raia co-authored with Phil Liggett the book Tour de France For Dummies, and he has provided sports commentary to Capital Public Radio in Northern California, National Public Radio and several additional Northern California network television and radio affiliates. He has authored the syndicated automotive column TheWeeklyDriver since 2004.
With this website, Raia and other journalists will provide Tour de France followers and other cycling enthusiasts with news, profiles, lifestyle articles, images, commentary and video content from Tour de France and other cycling events. Comments are welcomed.
