Phil Liggett has been around cycling for more than 50 years. He was an amateur competitor, a print journalist and he’s reported on the Tour de France as a broadcaster for 40 years. He considers Lance Armstrong a friend and they have a business relationship.
Liggett, of course, is the preeminent cycling broadcaster for North America viewers of the Tour de France on NBC, and he’s a favorite in Australia, South Africa and his native United Kingdom.
In this -minute video with a South African radio and television network, Ballz, Liggett questions the authority of USADA and explains Armstrong’s decision not to take his case to arbitration He also discusses a scenario during the recently concluded USA Pro Challenge in Colorado in which a pro rider told Liggett he was offered a bribe by a cycling drug agency to say he saw Lance Armstrong use EPO, The rider told Liggett be “flipped off” those making the request and walked away.
